Creek come on my front, & those in George Town had crossed black
river and Wharry, to follow my rear; the Torys which I had lately
Disperst was collecting on my right, which, would have compleatly
surrounded me and cut off my retreat; which Obliged me, to Re-
treat to this place, with 60 men, the rest Left me to see after their
family; which had their Houses burnt; they have burnt a number
of Houses on black river, Linches Creek and Wanaman, I shall
remain here until I here from you; or I have an Opportunity of doing
something.

Thos. Sim Lee Esqr.]

Sir The inclosed certificate was sent to the board, by Genl Gates,
in order that commission as Lt Col. Commandant, might issue to
Lt Col Ford. But the sole power of making promotions of Regi-
mental Officers being in the State to which the officer intitled to a
vacancy belongs, the board have the honor to transmit the certifi-
cate to your Excellency & If the honble Council are pleased to signify
their approbation of the promotion, the commission will issue
immediately.
The board have recd no official information of the resignation of
Col Price but suppose it was made to the State, if it has been made
at all.

Gentn I was Honoured with yours of the 6th Inst in answer to
my application, for your Approbation to my Appointment in the
Staff department for this State, wherein you acquaint me your
determination should be forwarded to me in a few days, permit
me to say to you there is pressing requests to me to forward all
supplys for the Army, and till your pleasure is known as to my
appointmt I can't fix the necessary men wanted to assist in the exe-
cuteing the business I wish only to stand in such situation as is con-
sistant with your pleasure and the true interest of this State and
shall be only happy in finding my endeavours to serve the Public
equally Sattisfactory in its opperation finding the Concurrence of
your Honourable Board will make me happy

Sir Understanding that some Discontented & Disaffected per-
sons Intends to prosecute Colo Wm Selby of Virginia for hanging
one of the most attrocious negro Villians that I Ever heard of, he
has been sold Over the Bay in Virginia for his crimes & has Killd
his overseer as I understand & had made his Escape from Justice
there into this neighbourhood & has Caused several Slaves to Leave
their masters & Join him in his thefts and Insolence &c.
