[Willm Fitzhugh, Rousby Hall, Patuxent to His Excellency
Thomas Sim Lee Esqr]

Dear Sir This will be Handed to you by Docf John Reader
Egan, whom I beg leave to Recommend to Your Excellency. As a
Surgeon to one of the Battalions of Militia, If any shou'd be sent
from this State to the Army. The young Gentleman is a Good sur-
geon & a man of Amiable Character.
I am now at this Place Attending my Harvest whether I shall
stay to see it Finish'd or not is uncertain & will Depend on the move-
ments The Enemys Fleet shall make in Our Bay. A fleet of more
than 20 Ships, Brigs &c went Down the Bay & meeting some of the
Enemy near Smiths Point on Potomack. returned in Hast yesterday
& are Gone up this River; This is rather Alarming, but I am Apt to
believe their fears overcame their Judgment, & that Danger was un-
equal to their Apprehensions, I shall thereupon wait for farther
Advice & be watchful to take Flight on the nearer approach of Real
Danger.
Mrs. Fitzhugh Joins with me in respectful Compts to you your
Lady & Family
