it They return and acquaint Mr Speaker his Excellency will be
ready at 10 of the Clock to receive it in the Conference Chamber
The same Gentlemen sent to present the Address. They return
and acquaint Mr Speaker they have presented it. It being represented
to this House that the Officers now raising Men for the Expedition
against Canada do enlist Servants Ordered therefore that the Com-
mittee of Laws prepare an Address to the Governor requesting him
that He will Order the said Officers to forbear such Practice. Mr
Dennis hath leave of the House to go Home. The House Adjourns
till 2 of the Clock.

Post Meridiem.

The House met according to Adjournment. Mr Thomas lobson
desireing to resign his Place of Serjeant at Arms he is discharged
from any further Attendance on this House. Mr Phillip Hammond
delivers Mr Speaker an Address to the Governor which was read
approved of and Ordered to be Ingrossed. The House make choyce
of Mr Thomas King to be their Serjeant at Arms and Ordered
that Maj Hall administer to Him the several Oaths to the Govern-
ment and Oath of Office. The following Ingrossed Address to the
Governor being read and assented to was Ordered on Behalf of the
House to be signed by the Honble Speaker Viz.
To his Excellency Thomas Bladen Esqr Governor of Maryland.
The Humble Address of the House of Delegates
May it please your Excellency
This General Assembly having provided a Sufficient Encourage-
ment for Able-bodied Freemen only to enlist themselves in his
Majestys service in the Intended Expedition against Canada it might
reasonably have been Expected that the Officers or Persons con-
cerned would have avoided either encouraging or taking servants
belonging to the Inhabitants: But since it appears that Servants
are not only Encouraged to enlist but that several are actually en-
listed in Order therefore to put a stop to such Practice for the future
and that Right may Be done to the Persons already injured, We
intreat your Excellency will give directions to the Officers in General
not to inlist any Servants and upons Being made appear to any of
the said Officers that any of the Persons already enlisted By them
are servants that they restore such servants to their respective Mas-
ters on Application made for them. Mr Sheredine and Mr Bayard
ordered to acquaint the Governor that this House Hath prepared an
Address to Him and desire to know when and where He will please
to receive it. They return and acquaint Mr Speaker His Excellency
will receive it on Monday Morning in the Conference Chamber.
Maj. Hall acquaints Mr Speaker that Mr Thomas King serjeant at
Arms had Taken the Oaths to the Government that he had signed
