Testament of William Smith, proved by Anne the Wife and Execu-
trix of the said William.
We find also in the same Book, Folio 7, that on the 4 January
1639 John Lewger signed as Commissary; and in the same Year
he is stiled Secretary. That in the same Book and Folio is the fol-
lowing Entry, viz. 12 January 1641, William Jackson made Oath,
that he was present at the signing of the Will by Robert Cooper,
bearing date 28 April 1641; and that the Will exhibited into the
Court was signed and delivered as the last Will and Testament of
the said Robert Cooper. Coram Leonard Calvert

We likewise find in the same Book, Folio 9, the following Entry,
viz. " June 19. This Day came Margaret Brent, and desired the
Testimony of the present Governor, Mr Thomas Green, concerning
the last Will and Testament of the late Governor Leonard Calvert
Esq, and the said Governor did authorize Giles Brent Esqr one of
his Lordship's Council, to administer an Oath unto him the said
Governor, concerning the aforesaid Business."
We likewise find in the same Book, Folio 24, that on the 16 April
1650, Thomas Hatton Esq. as Secretary, took the Probat of last
Wills and Testaments; and that from that Year, and several Years
afterwards, he the said Hatton continued to exercise the same Power.
We also find in the same Book, that Probat of Wills in the Year
1659, was likewise taken before Philip Calvert Esqr as Secretary.
We also find, that from the Year 1664, to the Year 1668, Probat
of Wills was taken before Charles Calvert Esq, and that in a Tes-
tamentary Proceeding Book in the Year 1668, Folio 2, he the said
Charles Calvert Esq. is stiled Lieutenant General and Chief Judge
for proving of Wills and granting of Administrations.
We also find in the same Book, Folio 636, a Will proved before
the Honourable Philip Calvert Esq. Chief Judge for Probat of Wills,
and granting Administrations, the 12 August 1674, and that he
continued to exercise the same Power to the n February 1681, as
appears from Book of Wills, Number 2. Folio 169.
We also find from the last mentioned Book, Folio 207, a Will
proved in the following Manner, viz. Proved in common Form, in
open Court, the 11 November 1670 E. Bonner Register.
We also find, That the said Bonner was then Register of Anne
Arundel County Court, and continued to take Probat of Wills in the
same manner, to the 11th of June 1692, as appears by the same Book,
Folio 233. We also find in the same Book, Folio 236, a Will proved
the 2d of February 1693, before Kenelm Cheseldyne, Commissary
General.

We also find, in the transcribed Book of Laws in the said Office,
