The House met according to Adjournment.
Mr George from the Committee of Laws, brings in the Bill enti-
tuled, An Act for laying an Imposition on Tobacco, for the Dis-
charge of his Lordship's Quit Rents and Support of Government,
altered in the Title as followeth, viz. An Act for laying an Imposi-
tion on Tobacco, and other Commodities therein mentioned, for the
Discharge of his Lordship's Quit Rents, and Support of Govern-
ment; with several Amendments: And a Motion being made for
Reading the said Bill, a Question was put, Whether the Reading
proposed shall be deemed a First or Second Reading? Resolved,
that it be deemed a second Reading.

On Motion of a Member that the following Words, viz: That
one Thousand Pounds Sterling, Part of the said Twelve Pence
Sterling per Hogshead, shall be paid to his Lordship's Governor
actually residing within this Province; the Residue or Remainder
thereof to be paid to the Treasurers of the respective Shores, and
applied towards defraying the publick Charge of the said Province,
as the General Assembly shall from Time to Time direct, during
the Continuance of this Act, be inserted as an Amendment to the said
Bill: A Question was put, Whether the said Words should be in-
serted, or not ? Resolved in the Negative.
