It being agreed to make several Amendments to the Report, it
was committed accordingly.
The House adjourns til To-morrow Morning 9 of the Clock.

Saturday Morning, September 14, 1745
The House met according to Adjournment, and the Proceedings
of Yesterday were read.
Col. King delivers Mr Speaker the following Report as amended
in the Committee.
At a Committee appointed by the Honourable the Lower House
of Assembly to enquire what Commodities, besides Tobacco, it will
be convenient to tax, and how much, towards raising a Sum to be
paid his Lordship in lieu of his Quit Rents ;

Were Present

Col. Robert King Mr Philip Hammond Col. Thomas Colvill
Mr Joshua George Mr Walter Smith Dr Charles Carroll

Your Committee conceive that the following Merchandize and
Commodities will bear the several Duties or Imposts to them respec-
tively annexed, viz.
Exports

Pipe Staves 5s Sterling per Thousand
Hogshead Staves 2s 6d per Thousand
Barrel Staves 1s6d per Thousand
Shingles 6d per Thousand

Imports

Negroes 20s Sterling per Head additional Duty.
White Servants in general 5s per Head
Rum and Spirits, 5s per Hundred Gallons, in all Bottoms, and by
whatever Ways or Means brought in, with the usual Discount
allowed.
Every Pipe of Wine, 5s and so in Proportion for a smaller Cask
with the usual Discount allowed
All which is humbly submitted to the Consideration of your Hon-
ourable House Signed per Order V. Denton, Clerk

Which being read, the House concurs therewith.
A Bill for settlement of Lands therein mentioned, on Francis
Waring, and the Heirs of this Body lawfully begotten, was read the
first Time, and ordered to lie on the Table.
Mr Harris from the Committee of Laws, brings in a Bill enti-
tuled, An Act for the better regulating the Election of Delegates to
serve in Assembly; which was read the first Time, and ordered to
lie on the Table
