To his Excellency Thomas Bladen Esqre Governor of Maryland
The humble Address of the House of Delegates of the said
Province.
May it please your Excellency.
In your Message to this House, concerning an Equivalent in lieu
of his Lordship's Quit Rents, you have been pleased to tell us, that
it is signified that you may endeavour to settle such Composition on
such Terms as may be reasonable for his Lordship, easy to his Ten-
ants, and conducive to the Happiness of the whole Province.
We take leave to return your Excellency Thanks for your kind
Offices herein, and hope you will believe that it is our sincere Desire
(if it may be done) that such Composition should be equally reason-
able as well for his Lordship as the People we represent, and from
his kind Expressions we have Reason to expect he means the same.
The House of Delegates in May Session 1744, did, by an Address
to your Excellency, make a Proposal to be transmitted to his Lord-
ship on this Head, to which as we have no direct Answer, we are
desirous to know whether the same be acceptable, or if otherwise,
what his Lordship, or your Excellency for him, shall judge to be a
reasonable Composition; and as we conceive this must be grounded
on the neat Proceeds of the Quit Rents in the respective Counties,
