levied upon the Taxable Inhabitants of this Province, be taken into
Consideration on Tuesday next.
Mr Thomas Hammond, and Mr Thomas, have leave of the House
to go Home.
Mr Smith, from the Committee of Elections and Privileges, brings
in the following Report, viz.
By the Committee of Elections and Privileges, August 23. 1745
Your Committee, having inspected the Writs directed to the several
Sherifs, and to the Mayor, Recorder, and Aldermen of the City of
Annapolis, with the Indentures thereunto annexed, do find That
Mr Zachariah Bond, Mr Samuel Abell, and Mr Abraham Barns, are
duly returned for St. Mary's County, and that Mr James Mills is also
returned a member for said County; but that your Committee being
informed that the Polls taken for the said Mills, and Mr James Swan
were equal, whereupon the Sherif of said County gave his Voice in
favour of said Mills, and declared his Election accordingly. The
Legality of which is submitted to the House.
That Mr Richard Gresham, Mr George Wilson, Mr John Gresham,
and Mr Matthias Harris, Members returned for Kent County, are
duly returned.
That Maj. Henry Hall, Dr Charles Carroll, Mr Philip Hammond,
and Mr Thomas Worthington. members returned for Anne Arundel
County, are duly returned.
That Mr Walter Smith, Mr Joseph Hall, Mr John Brome, and
Mr James John Mackall, Members returned for Calvert County, are
duly returned.
That Mr Bayne Smallwood, Mr Richard Harrison, Mr William
Wilkinson, and Mr John Courts, Members returned for Charles
County, are duly returned.
That William Stoughton Esqre Capt. David Willson, Mr John
Dennis, and Col. Robert King, Members returned for Somerset
County, are duly returned
That Mr John Goldsborough, Mr Robert Lloyd, Mr William
Thomas, and Mr Nicholas Goldsborough, Members returned for
Talbot County, are duly returned.
That Col. Henry Hooper, Capt. Bartholomew Ennalls, and Mr
Philemon Lecompte, are duly returned for Dorchester County, and
that Mr Daniel Sulivane is also returned a member for said County ;
But your Committee being informed, that the said Sulivane acted
as under Sherif in the said County long before and after notice given
of the Time of the Election for said County; We therefore submit
it to your consideration, whether the said Mr Sulivane his acting as
under Sherif as aforesaid, disqualified him from being elected a
member of your House.
