land formerly called Greenhills att his returne passed by the howse
of Coll Evans and there tould the said Evans that he bought the land
for fiue thousand pounds of tobacco and Caske, then the said Evans
replyed there was five hundred pounds of tobacco due to the Orphans,
and that he had as good haue given vp the bill (which to the best
of this Depon^ts memory) he sayd was in M^r Gardners possoⁿ, att
the first rather then now moreover this depon^t did heare M^r Lang-
worth say in the p^rsence of the hono^ble Philip Calvert Governor that
M^r Pille had pffered him seaven hundred pounds of tobacco to be
discounted out of the bills provided that he would keepe the Land for
the Orphans but M^r Langworth replyed that he could not doe itt,
further sayth not

.... Gardner taken this 30^th .... vpon, but what the discourse was
this Depon^t remembreth not as to the particulers, But this depon^t
sayth that to the best of his Remembrance they came to an agreem^t
and he thinks there were wrytings delivered unto M^r Piles After
which tyme this depon^t sayth that he the s^d depon^t and Cap^t Lang-
worth fell into discourse of what had formerly passed and that the
said Langworth did tell this Depon^t that he thought itt was better to
lett M^r Piles haue the Plantacon then to pay the Tobacco w^ch M^r
Pilles demanded, and to pay the Rent, considering the little proffitt
itt would returne to the Childe or words to this purpose, And
farther this depon^t sayth he heard the s^d Langworth say that upon
agreem^t Betweene them and M^r Pille that when the said Pille should
sell the plantacon, he was to pay them one halfe of all such proffetts
as the said Pille should make by the Sale over and aboue what was
the said Pilles his due from John Greenhill, and this Depon^t sayth
that the said Langworth did relate this upon the Acc^o of a bill w^cc
M^r Piles had assigned unto this depon^t which bill was due from John
Greenhill vpon which Agreement of theirs the s^d Langworth made a
Demurre to pay itt but afterwards because he had promised this
depon^t paym^t of the bill before such tyme as the depon^t accepted of
itt from M^r Pille the s^d Langworth did pay the s^d bill to this depon^t
Yett doubting as the s^d Langworth himselfe Related to this depon^t
whether Coll Evans would allowe itt vnto him againe, all which this
depon^t to the best of his Remembrance and knowledge deposeth vnto
