4. There being large Tracts of Land Reserv'd for the Indians, the
English have Encroach'd upon them, made Surveys & got grants, &
some of them have not Stuck to deny the payment of the Quit-Rents,
Alledging th' they hold of the Indians, It is my Order Therefore, that
all thesc Reserves be Erected into Mannors, whereby these poor
Indians will be taken under my immediate Protection.
5. Notwithstanding thro the Negligence of the Clerks in the
Land-Office (especially when Mr Tilgman was Chancellor) there
were very great Blunders comitted as to the Rent Reserved (and no
doubt in Several other particulars) by Inserting less than the usual
Rent in some patents, & in others omitting the word Sterling, of
which some of the patentees taking Advantage, have offer'd to pay

wise, Tis my Pleasure that my Agent demand Sterling of such
Patentees, several others in the like circumstances having consider'd
the Matter, as it really is, a Mistake, & no other have honestly paid
all the Rent due; & in case of non complyance with Attny Genl has
orders to proceed in Chancery against them.
6. As the getting all the Rent-Rolls fully & perfectly compleated,
wou'd be the greatest Service both to me as my posterity, there is
nothing wch I more recomend to my Agents care, than to forward it
as much as possible, & in order hereunto, I wou'd have you oblige
the Farmers of the Quit-Rents to Return you annually one Rent Roll
Book of every particular County each Farmer Rents, & a Copy of sd
Books must be Transmitted yearly to England.
7. As to the Ferrys, I wou'd have my Agent Lett them upon Leases
of 3 years only, & if they were Lett to the County Courts tis my
opinion it wou'd contribute to the Ease of the people; and I wou'd
have all those who sett up Ferrys in opposition to these Leases,
entirely Discountenanced by all the Magistrates of the Province.
8. Tis my Desire that my Agent Impower the Sheriffs to take up
all waifs, strays, Deodands, &ca & to allow them good Commission
for their Encouragemt; & by this Method it is to be hoped my In-
terest will not only be advanced, but the people likewise be render'd
much securer, than if the Rangers were to continue as usual, many
of them having proved legal Thieves.
