The Question was put that 2/6 p hhd the 20s Sterling Duty arise-
ing on Negroes Imported and the three half pence a hha upon Tobacco
belonging to the Publick Schools be offered by an Address to the
Lord Proprietary as an Equivalent for the Quit Rent and Aliena-
tion fines Resolved in the Negative. The Question was put whether
it is the Opinion of this House that it would be an Ease and Ad-
vantage to the Inhabitants of this Province that an Equivalent be
proposed to the Lord Proprietary of £4000 Sterling in Lieu of his
Lordships Quit Rents and Alienation fines without Burthening To-
bacco with more than 2/6 Sterling p hhd Additional Duty.
Resolved in the Affirmative.

This House having agreed to Offer the Right Honourable the
Lord Proprietary £4000 Sterling as an Equivalent for his Quit
Rents and Alienation fines. The Question is proposed to be put
whether an Address shall be presented to his Lordship to propose
the said Sum and to set forth in That Address how and in what
manner the Said Sum may be raised or not resolved in the Affir-
mative.
The Question was put that a Duty of 5 p Cent be raised on the
Purchasers of Negroes as part of the ways and means towards
raiseing an Equivalent
Resolved in the Affirmative.
The Question was put that Is Sterling Duty be raised on Wine
and Rum Imported in Country Bottoms as part of the Ways and
means towards raiseing an Equivalent. Resolved in the Affirma-
tive.
The House Adjourns till to morrow Morning 9. a Clock.

Hammond and Mr Mathews
Mr Smith from the Committee appointed to Enquire Into the State
and Condition of the Arms and Ammunition &c. Delivers Mr Speaker
the following Report.
We of the Committee Appointed by the Lower House of Assembly
to Enquire into the State and Condition of the Arms and Amunition
of this Province have viewed and Inspected the Quality and Quant-
ity of the Same now in the City of Annapolis which we find to be
as follows Sst Over the Conference Room 94 good Musketts 113
Bad Musketts 114 good Carbines one bad Carbine 42 Short Musketts,
193 pistols 42 Bayonets one Halberd one picke, 16 good Drums 5
Bad Drums, 9 bad Trumpets 56 Cartouch boxes 18 Bucketts 50
Bells 50 Barrills of Shott, one Barrill of flints about 13 Chests of
Matches 41 Sword and Carbine belts 50 Bayonet Belts 4 pair and a
