James Harris Esqr and Majr King are Sent to the Upper House to
Acquaint his Excellency the Governeur that a Sufficient Number of
Members are met in the Stadt House to make a House.
They return and say they Delivered their Message
Coll. Richard Tilghman & Mathew Tilghman Ward Esqr from
the Upper House Acquaint Mr Speaker that his Excellency the Gov-
erneur Commands him and the Other Members Immediately to
Attend him in the Upper House, And then Withdrew
Mr Speaker left the Chair and with the rest of the Members of this
House went to Attend his Excellency the Governeur in the Upper
House who was pleased to make the following Speech. [The text of
this speech is printed at page 256.]
Then Mr Speaker and the rest of the Members of this House return
Mr Speaker reassumed the Chair.
Mr Speaker Acquaint the House that his Excellency the Govern-
eur was pleased to Deliver to him the following Queries Mentioned
in his Excellency's Speech.
Q. What Trade has the Province under your Government without
[to] any foreign Plantations or any Part of Europe besides Great
Britain ? How is that Trade Carried on ? what Commodities do the
people under their Government send to, or receive from Plantations ?
Q. What is the Natural Produce of the Country Staple Com-
modities and Manufactures, besides Tobacco ? and what Value thereof
in Sterling Mony may you Annually Export ?
Mr Cumming who was Admitted & Sworn Clerk of this House last
Session Acquainted this House that they Acted in Friendship to Mr
Macnemara the former Clerk who was obliged to go to Great Britain
last year and was not returned when the last Session begun, And that
as Mr Macnemara is now returned, Mr Cumming requested to be Dis-
charged from Serving any longer as Clerk to this House Which
request this House Granted and Discharged the said Cumming ac-
cordingly And Appointed Mr Michael Macnemara to be Clerk in
his Stead.
Mr Beale and Mr Warfeild were Ordered to Attend the Gov-
ernour in Order to Acquaint him that this House hath Chose Mr
