Gentlemen
In answer to your Message of this day by Mr. Holyday & Mr.
Johnson We let you know that We are surprized you should insist
upon the Reduction of a fourth part of the Officers fees, since those
fees are not ascertained by Law, wherefore this house cannot recede
from their Amendment proposed, nor pass the bill without leaving
out the Words, and other officers.
