By the Lower House of Assembly November the 2d 1728
May it please your Honours
The Bill for Improving the Staple of Tobacco having passed
both Houses we are desirous that it should not meet with any
Obstruction in its passing into a Law but least any miscarriage
may happen to it either by a Misrepresentation of the present Cir-
cumstances of this Province or any Ungenerous Application of the
Clergy hereof who are only affected in equal proportion with the
other Inhabitants we hope that your Honours will join with us in
an Address to his Honour the Governor.
Setting forth the present deplorable Circumstances of this prov-
ince and the necessity of A Tobacco Law together with a represen-
tation of the Condition of the Clergy and of the little Reason they
have to murmer against such a Law
