66 Assembly Proceedings, May 28-June 8, 1717.

L. H. J,

. increased by yr Excys so earnestly recomending to us the
Consideration of the Comon Good.
We most gratefully Acknowledge their Lpps Justice in the
removing those Officers that were Despisers of our Laws and
introduced themselves by Surprize and misinformacdn and
must Likewise acknowledge the Valuable Services Your Excy
has been pleased to do our Lord Propry and this Province in
having such Misinformacons and the Designs of the Inform-
ers so Opportunely detected.
We shall allways endeavour to be gratefull to our Bene-
factors and Christians to all and shall be glad to find our
roman Catholick Neighbours Content with the present Indul-
gences they enjoy and carefull they exceed not the bounds of
that Law which they once rejoyced at as a favour And We
hope they'l better understand the Present Establishment than
to endeavour any further Infringement of it.
Your Excy's frequent recomending to us the Propagating
Learning is a further Instance how much your Excy has at
Heart the Generall wellfare of our Country the want whereof
is too Evident Amongst us and We reflect how Zealous Your
Excy has been in promoting Learning for us and how wanting
We have been to ourselves in that Part We can scarce expect
to escape the reproach of those We represent. But We must
begg Leave to Charge this our remissness on the great Dis-
couragement We have already met with in having Moneys
that arc rais'd in this Province Applyed to the maintaining a
School in another by which never any One Inhabitant of this
has reap'd the least Advantage. This manner of Application
We are Perswaded had never been used had not our Neigh-
bours in Virginia made some misrepresentacons concerning
it. If We cou'd be so happy by your Excy's Assistance to
have this Case truly Stated and a Proper Applicacon made for
redress We should not Doubt Success from the Justice of our
Case, And then We should with Cheerfullness exert our-
selves in the endeavouring to make such an Establishment as
might give our Present Youth and Posterity an Opportunity
of Learning.

In the Interim We shall be glad of embracing all Oppor-
tunities to support the present schooll that may not be too
burthensome to the Publick and should be glad to receive such
Proposalls as the present Rector and Visitors shall think fitt
to make for our Assistance in the Consideracon of that so
important an Affair.
We shall imediately Proceed to do what may be Proper in
respect to the regulation of Ordinaries. We again acknowl-
edge their Lpps great Goodness particularly in the regard
