54 Assembly Proceedings, May 28-June 8, 1717.

Jenifer to be Clerk of this House who According to the Act
of Assembly of this Province entituled an Act for the better
Security of the Peace and Safety of his Lpps Goverment and
the Protestant Intrest within this Province took the severall
Oaths thereby directed as also the Oath of a Clerk to this
House his Excy the Governr and Councill not being then
Sitting.
Ordered that the late Clerk or those in whose Custody the
Papers relating to this house are do deliver the Same to
Michael Jenifer the present Clerk of this House.

The House Adjourns till to Morrow
morning Eight of the Clock

Wednesday May 29th 1717

The house meet according to Adjournment present as
yesterday wth the Addicon of Capt Thomas Trueman Green-
field Capt Henry Pere Jowles Capt. Jno Baker Capt Daniel
Mariartee Mr Wm Young Coll James Maxwell Mr Francis
Dollahide Mr Peter Bond Mr John Brannock Mr Robt Tyler
Majr John Bradford Majr Josiah Wilson Mr Sam" Hopkins
and Mr Whittington junr Mr Benja Tasker is excused by
reason of his Sickness.

The House Adjourns till two a Clock in the afternoon.

Post Meridiem

The House meet according to Adjournment who being
called over are present as in the forenoon Except John Rousby
Esqr Mr Robert Tyler who excused thro' Sickness.
Ordered that Coll: John Mackall Mr James Stoddert and
Capt Daniel Mariarte go and Acquaint his Excy that a Suffi-
cient number of Members are met to Make an House. They
return & say they Delivered their Message.
Ordered that MrMariarte and Mr Stoddert go & acquaint
his Excy of the Choice of Michael Jenifer for the Clerk and
that they present him to his Excy and that they see him
Qualified.
They return and say his Excy Approves of him and that
they see him Qualified by the taking of the Oath of Clerk of
this house and the severall Oaths according to Law.
Esqr Brooke and Coll Holland from the upper House Ac-
quaint Mr Speaker that his Excy desires him and the whole
house to attend his Excy in the Councill Chamber. Then Mr
Speaker wth the rest of the house went to attend his Excy
accordingly.
