Impowering a Comittee to lay Assess and apportion the Pub-
lick Levy for this present year 1717 Assented to by the lower

My Lords:
It was with the greatest Satisfaction Imaginable that we
fell upon the Consideration of your Ldships kind Speech to
both houses of Assembly wherein you were pleased to Express

your Zealous Inclinations for advanceing the Welfare & Pros-
perity of this your Province of Maryland And at the same time
Promise that the Comon good thereof shoud be inseperable
from your Lordships own Interest.
We must acknowledge ourselves most Sensibly touched with
the Greatness of your Lordships Considerations putting us
upon an Establishment that is Intirely Protestant whereby the
very Grounds and motives of those Jealousies which of late
made your Lordships Protestant Tenants very uneasie are
Effectually removed and room made for the truly Charitable
and Christian Spiritt of the Church of England to shew how
Indulgent she is to the professors of the Romish Religion
altho at the same time she knows them to be her Irreconcileable
Enemies nor can any thing be wanting to the Security of the
Papists here, whilst they demean themselves as good Subjects
to our King forbearing & discountenanceing all evil practices
that may render them Obnoxious to the Government.
We heartily thank your Lordships for Comending our Zeal
& Loyalty for his Majesty's Sacred pson and the Succession
in the Illustrious house of Hannover for your approbation
thereof manifestly discovers that we have happily fallen in
with your Lordships Sentiments that Religion Liberty and
Property are only secured to true English men by the blessing
of Providence which already hath And as we hope always will
protectt our glorious monarch King George And the Royal
