But if the Royall Grant of King William aforesaid be
limited to a certain time when it Shall determine as we are
Informed it is, then we are in great hopes, that upon the
proper Application to his most Sacred Majesty Setting forth
that we your Lordships Tennants of this Province, are alike
Subjects of Great Brittain wth those of Virginia, That we are
under much greater Dificultyes as to Schooles that there hath
been great Summs of money Collected on the said Duty of one
penny p pound and Applyed to the benefit of the Colledge
aforesd that a Magnificent Colledge is and hath been long
Since built in Virginia, we are humbly of Opinion that it may
now be thought reasonable that we his Majestys loyall Sub-
jects of this Province should have some Share of his Royall
Bounty towards the Support of a free Schooll already built at
Annapolis and that the one penny p pound to be Collected
within this Province after the Determination of the Grant to
the Governour and trustees of the Colledge of Virginia aforesd
might be Applyed to the use and Support thereof. Wherefore
we humbly implore your Lordships kind endeavours in Assist-

ing and carrying on a design so truely noble and beneficial to
the whole Province & if Accomplisht will perpetuate your
Lord [ships] Memory in the minds of all good people for ages
to come.
My Lords. We want words to express our Satisfaction at
the entire confidence which your Lordships declare you have in
your great Council convened in Generall Assembly and we
now promise that we will make it our Chief endeavours to
cultivate this good understanding by all the measures of duty
and Submission that shall be most Consistent with the true
Interest of Maryland, which we promise ourselves your
Lordships will always have at heart as well as the Protestant
Establishment the true foundation of it. We begg leave to ap-
plaud your Lordships tender Compassion, to consciences truely
Scrupulous a principle that Speaks you true Sons of that
holy and pious Church which Practices Charity with all man-
kind and we doe further assure you we are led by our Inclina-
tions as well as principles to the same Compassion for all such
persons of Scrupulous consciences as demean themselves in-
offensively in the Government and do not endeavour the per-
verting his Majestyes Protestant Subjects to the Superstition

of the Church of Rome but if any such persons should com-
plain of persecution merely because We do not make particular
laws in their favour, to be a barrier and as it were Skreene
them against the laws of great Britain, We flatter ourselves
