Post Meridiem. The House meet according to Adjourn-
ment

The petition of Mary Darrington praying to be releived
against a fine & recovery in the Provinciall Court against a
Certain Willm Darrington and Richard Hooper was read and
referr'd for further consideration.
The petition of Christopher Bateman praying to be released
from the Custody of the Sheriff of Kent County not being able
to pay the Sume for which he was in execution was read and
the Question being put whether leave Shall be given to bring
in a Bill for his relief or not Resolved in the affirmative by the
Majority of Voices and that he Surrender all his Estate upon
oath and be Exempt from thl Execution for three years to
come. And ordered the Committee of Laws prepare the bill.
Colonel Tilghman from the upper house delivers Mr
Speaker the petition of Mr Tobias Pollard against Peter
Taylor to his Excellency and the Honourable Council com-
plaining of Scandalous reflections as well towards the said
Pollard as the Governour and upper and Lower Houses of
Assembly with the following Message which was read and
ordered to be entred as follows Viz.

By the upper house of Assembly May 19th 1719.

Gent. Upon evidence given after reading the peticon of
Tobias Pollard herewith sent you, this house is of opinion that

not only his Excellency the Governour in particular but the
whole legislature of this Province in Generall is basely af-
fronted & reflected on by a Member of your house, wherein
as we take it, your house is particularly concerned, for if the
petitioner were a Tool in the case alledged, what opinion must
the Countrey have of their representatives who are so easily
influenced and perverted by one Single pernicious person to
consent to the ruin of their Countrey. Such practices we take
to be barbarously malicious, and of very ill consequence in the
effects of them as tending to create Jealousies and Distrusts
between the people and his Lordships Governour and both
houses of Assembly.
If upon Examination you find the facts that the Gentleman
is charged withall to be true, we do not in the least Question
