Thereupon Resolved Nemine Contradicente that a Bill be
brought in Accordingly with a Clause giving him Leave to
finish Such Accons as are now depending wherein he is con-
cerned, and Ordered the Comittee of Laws prepare the Bill.
Colo Young from the Upper House delivers Mr Speaker
the Bill for the Qualifying John Steele Esqr to hold Offices
within this Province &ca thus Endorst viz:

By the upper house of Assembly May the 7th 1718.
Read in this House & will pass.
Signed p order Jno Beard Cl: Up: Ho:

Which was read in this House and past for engrossing,
and Sent to the Comittee of Laws to be engrost.

The House adjourns till one of the Clock in the Afternoone.

Post Meridiem. The House meet According to Adjourn-
ment.
Mr Carroll According to his promise of Yesterday Sends
his Answer in writing to the Question Proposed to him relat-
ing to the I2d p Hhd &ca which was read & Ordered to be
entred as follows viz:

To the honble the House of Delegates now Sitting. In
Obedience to Your Honrs directions requiring me to give Yor
Honrs what Informacon I was capable of in relation to the
late Lord Benedict's or his Exrs Acceptance of the I2d p hhd
which was Continued by an Act made in June 1715 untill the
29th day of September following and was to be paid to the
said Lord Benedict on the same Consideracon his Father had
before Accepted it:

I do Certifie hereby to your Honours all that occurs to me
upon that Subject, Viz:
That the Lord Benedict dying So Soon after his father
could have no knowledge of that Law & therefore could
neither have declared his refusall or Acceptance thereof that
the I2d raised by Vertue of that Law has been by me remitted
for England and such proportion thereof as became due Since
the Death of the Lord Charles and untill the Death of the
Lord Benedict has as I verily believe been Accounted for to
the Exrs of the said Lord Benedict an exact Computacon
thereof being by me laid before the Executrix of the said Lord
Charles and the present Lord Baltemore
That the Exrx of the said Lord Benedict has fully em-
powered me to receive and take into my hands all the personall
