By the lower House of Assembly May the 3^d 1718.
May it please yo^r Honours
We having taken in Consid^rs Your Message of Wednesday
last by Esq^r Brooke & Esq^r Hall in relacon to the Deduction
of Eight p Cent on the eighteen pence p hh^d and on our
perusall of our Journall of May Assembly 1717, We find that
by a Message to y^r Honours of the 8^th of June last We made a

Clear State of that Case to which We shall only add that as
that Mony was raised Conditionally for his L^pps use if he was
pleased to accept thereof and if not for the defraying the
publick Charge so on his L^pps Pleasure of Acceptance Signi-
fyed We wholly resigned our Intrest therein for his L^pps use
without any Claim of Deduction thereout But must confess
if on his L^pps refusall to accept it the mony had been applyed
to the use of the publick the Navall Officers would have had a
right by law to deduct their Sallary of Eight p Cent ag^t us and
cannot alter our Opinions that as his L^pp accepted thereof he
took it as it was raised under the like Incumbrances We
should have had it in Case he had not accepted it But if any
Disputes be in this part it can in nowise affect us but lies
properly betwixt his L^pp and those Officers.
