Address by Colo Holland, Col Coursey, Col Young, Col Ad-
dison, & Col Smyth Viz.

Gentlemen. The Zeal you Express for his most Sacred
Majtys Service and that Dutiful & affectionate Regard you
have for the Lord Propry & his Lordships Noble Guardian the
Lord Guilford, will undoubtedly be highly Acceptable to their
Lordships. Nor shall I be wanting to give their Lordships an
Early Account of the happy disposition of your house.
Gent. I return you my most hearty thanks for the Obliging
Sentiments you have both for my Administration & Person.
The preserving your Laws & Previledges in the same Condi-
tion I found them at my Arrival has been the sole View &
Aim of my Actions And as my Conduct in so doing has been
Agreeable to their Lordships Comands & Intentions so there
are many Halcyon days promised to your Country
It is with Extream pleasure that I find you so readily come
into my request for the propagation of learning in this Prov-
ince. I will do all that lies in my power [that] may be Proper
to advance that good end. For in this and all other respects I
shall be Joyfull to be an Instrument of Promoting the Pros-
perity of Maryland as the most Effectuall means of being
faithfull to my Lord Propry and Acting Impartially in my
Station

His Excellency having Laid before this house his Lordships
reasons for dissenting to the Law that lays an Imposition of
four pounds p poll on Irish Servants Imported.
Resolved that the Message following be sent to the Lower
house

By his Excellency the Govr June 1st 1717
Gent. The Reasons assigned by their Lordships for the
dissenting to the Law which lays four pounds p poll on Irish
Servants are, That it tends to the Excluding his Majesty's
