Sent to the Lower House by Coll Holland who return and
say they delivered it
The following message being Prepared is sent to the Lower
House Viz.
By the Uper House of Assembly.

Gent. May the 5th 1718
Forasmuch as his Excellency has laid before this House as
an Aggrievance that for three years past there has but very
few Patents come forth of Mr Carroll's Office, to the prejudice
of those who have paid for the drawing the same, And John
Beale Esqr one of the Members of your House knowing
something thereof Desire leave of your house for the said Mr
Beale to Attend this House to inform us therein
Signed p Order John Beard Cl. Up Ho.

Whereupon Mr Beale Appearing is asked by his Excy what
Answer Mr Carroll gave him when he asked him what was the
Reason of his not giving out the Patents, And Declares Mr
Carroll answered he would not give them out unless He was
paid for them as Usuall.

The House Adjourns till Afternoon

Post Meridiem

The House meet according to Adjournment. Present as
before noon

Col James Maxwell and two others from the Lower House
Bring up a Bill for Removeing the Court House from Charles
Town in Prince Georges County And for building a Court
house for the sd County at Marlbrough and for makeing Sale
of the old Court House & Prison
Passed by that House
It is Offered by his Excellency that Mr Thomas Macnemara
be sent for to know if he has any thing to Offer on that Letter
Dd him by the Clerk of this House from their Lordships or
not.
Resolved he be sent for.
Which being Accordingly done and the sd Mr Macnemara
appearing his Excy proposes to him the Questions follo to
which the sd Macnemara makes the Severall Answers follo viz.
