concerning her Support & Maintenance & for wh purpose
to put Mr Grayham by My Lord's desire in office whose
value I was not then aprised of as I am now, By your list
of offices & Salarys in the Province the two offices I requested
of you in favour for her by putting Mr Grayham in I find
amt upwds of 196l pr Ann. the intention being only to provide
for her well with sufficiency wh will be compassed by a 100l
pr Ann. & as she lives with Mr Grayham will be a means of
Rewarding him for his trouble & Expence she may Occasion
him therefore, you will manage in what way is most suitable
to you in regard for her security of the 100£ pr Ann—In-
deed on these accts I am sorry you are to have further
trouble; Mr Wogan's affair I did all I could to stem with
My Lord, to no purpose, he express'd himself very severe
my Opposition to it wh I told him proceeded not of Oppo-
sition to him or dislike lo Mr Wogan, bul that I fear'd such
provisions would be too great a Burthen on Offices, however,
as I found him averse to all argumt against it & that he had
wrote you a Letter thereon, I mention'd on Mr Wogan's be-
half as wrote in My Publick Letter to you. you must do
the best you can & take to your self some employ to answer
the purpose by return I shoud think best to My Lord himself,
1 can't see how from the Land office by its produce. I thank
you greatly for your return to me as pr Bill of 125£ & of 4
Bills amt of 125£ being in your discharge to me with regard
to My Lord desire as pr his Instructions to you for paymt
of 200£ pr Ann. in Consideration as a recompence on your
part for my Attendance as Secy of the Province in Execu-
tion in General of Affairs from the Proprietor for the well-
fare of the Province, the two sums making two hundred &
fifty pounds if you mean a return for a year is over paymt
of 5of unless you mean My request to you for My Dis-
tressed Sister, I've applied the same to her & family as such,
apprehending it so, as you promised agreeable to my request
to you on her behalf, you would if in your Power Aid her in
Misfortune. I observe among your List of Proffits of Offices
No Persons set down as Rent Roll keepers of either shore,
Mr Lloyd by yr Instructions was to be for the Western &
Mr ? Tilghman for the Eastern the Ist being Treasurer for
the Eastern I suppose declined it. the Ist stands in My
Lords Accte at 135£ 15s 5D 2d the other at 125£ 6s 7d by acct
1751. one of these taken to yourself wod answer W. Gra-
tuity, I have not as yet shewn the list offices with the
Proffits as yet to My Lord, the Number of Places some hold
they wod take hold of He has often Observed to me that he
has been informed that some have too many that hinder the
