the Delegates the honble Presidt is ready to receive them in
the Council Chamber.
Who returned & said they had delivered their Message
The several members of the House of Delegates came up
to the Council Chamber and were directed to repair to their
House and make Choice of a Speaker
And accordingly the members of the House of Delegates
went to their House and in some short time came up to the
Council Chamber & presented Mr Robert Tyler of Prince

Georges County for their Speaker. Who very modestly and
ingenuously prayed to be Excused from that Office alledging
his Inability to discharge that Trust and desired the Delegates
might proceed to make choice of a person more capable
Which at his request the Honble President was pleased to
Grant and thereupon the Delegates took leave & repaired to
their House And after some short Time came up again to the
Council Chamber And offered to the Honble Presidt that
whereas others & more of the Delegates were come to the
House and Claimed to have their Votes allowed on the Elec-
tion of the Speaker Those who had already voted for Mr
Tyler refused to allow their Votes affirming the Speaker was
Chosen before they came to the House so that they were too
late To which they were answered by the honble President
that upon Mr Tyler's prayer the Delegates were directed to
repair to their House and consider of the Choice of their
Speaker Which not being done or the Speaker confirmed be-
fore the members claiming their Vote came into the House It
will be but reasonable they should be admitted to their Votes.
And therefore directed the Delegates to repair to their House
and make Choice of a Speaker pursuant whereto they departed
to their House And this Board being made acquainted the sd
Delegates could not agree upon their Choice of Speaker The
Honble President ordered her Majesty's Writt of Prorogation
to be issued And the same Was carryed to the House of Dele-

gates by the honble Col Thomas Addison Col Tilghman &
Capt Dorsey and read to them as followeth. Viz.

Ann by the Grace of God of Great Brittain France & Ireland
Queen Defender of the Faith &c To our trusty and well be-
loved our Counsellors and Delegates and Burghesses elected
to serve in our General Assembly of this our Province of
Maryland to be convened as on this Day Greeting

Know ye that we have thought fit & do hereby prorogue
the sd General Assembly until Wednesday the 29th Inst At
which Time We will you to convene yourselves at the Genl
Assembly in order to consult debate advise & Consent to such
