The Honble Colo Greenberry and Colo Whittington enter
the House and deliver Mr Speaker the following Message.
By the Council in Assembly
9ber 4th 1713
We cannot be of your Sentiments either that it should be
very illconvenient a member of this Board should be a pub-
lick Treasurer, or that the present Treasurer of the Western
Shore has bore himself so high upon his being a Councillor
to deter any Person from Access to him or any wise thought
himself above being accountable to your House but that the
Inconveniencies hinted from his being so are barely imaginary.
When the publick Stock is overdrawn in the Treasurers
Hands scarce any will advance their own Money without some
reasonable Consideration therefor We have no Objection to
MrYoung'sIntegrityor Diligence yet if you are fully resolved to
recommend new Treasurers upon your offering fit and proper
Persons for that Trust we shall be ready to concur with you
Signed p Order W Bladen Cl. Council.
Which being Read and considered Resolved it be answered
as follows
By the House of Delegates
4th November 1713.
Our Sentiments relating to the present Treasurers are not
imaginary or groundless nor is it only when the publick Stock
is overdrawn that Advance Money is required for prompt
Paymt But to shew your Honours we have no particular
Grudge or ill Will against those Gentlemen notwithstanding
the Complaints made to us we do again nominate and recom-
mend the Honble Samuel Young Esqr and Colo Thomas
Smithson to be Treasurers until this House with Concurrence
of the Honble Council shall discharge them therefrom pro-
vided they give good Security to Account &ta as oft as called
before this House and not to expect any Money for prompt
