Resolved upon the Question that the present Treasurers be
discharged and upon our recommending others and your
Honour's Concurrence that they give such Securitys as shall
be approved of by your Honours and this House to answer
the Country in Case of the Treasurer's Death or Insolvency
and that a particular Clause be inserted in such Bond that the

Treasurer shall pay the Money according to Directions with-
out exacting any Thing for prompt which has been an Impo-
sition too frequently made Use of to the great Damage of
many People and we think below the Dignity of that Officer

Woolford, Mr Lookerman, Mr Jowles and Mr Fendall.

The Message yesterday by Colo Holland and others read,
debated, and ordered to be answered as follows.

By the House of Delegates
November 4th 1713

The Message yesterday by Colo Holland, Colo Ennalls and
Colo Tilghman we have read and considered and as to such
Part thereof as relates to Sir Thomas Lawrence in Answer to
the Honble President's Speech at the Opening this Session
we assured you that we should pay a due Regard to her
Majesty's Order relating to Sir Thomas Lawrence's Claims
and should examine the Journals and Proceedings of former
Assemblies in Referrence thereto and give your Honours a
true State of that Case which we expected would have satis-
fied you. As to our Intentions we are very sorry your Hon-
ours have no more Regard for us than to distrust our In-
tegrity in any Thing we say and saving the Liberties and
Privileges of this House which we take by that Message to be
infringed we acquaint your Honours why we have not yet
laid the same before you as follows.

We have ever since had a Committee out to examine into
the same and report their Opinion therein to the House that
we may consider thereof and lay the same before your Hon-
ours, But the Records, Journals and other Papers by that
Officers Neglect Carelessness or Design are so damnified,
imbezzled, or mislaid that it gives us abundance of Trouble in
the Case and hinders our accomplishing the same so soon as
we could wish. We shall always be ready to pay a dutiful,
and awful Deference to her Majesty's Commands and shew
ourselves dutiful & loyal Subjects and cannot doubt of meet-
