apprehend any evil Consequences but good Effects therefrom
If you think the Penalty too great you may apportion it suitable
to the Offence. As to the Clause you propose to inhibit her
Majesty's Subjects from trusting the Indians or taking any
Pawn from them we readily agree thereto.

Committee of Accounts enter the House and deliver Mr
Speaker their Journal

The Journal read and assented to by the House and sent
up to the Honble Council for their Assent by Mr Leach and
Mr Hill.

They return and say they delivered the Journal
Upon reading and debating the Message and Bill relating
to the Indians Put to the Question whether the Bill pass as
amended by the Council. It passed in the Negative. And

Resolved That the second Paragraph be amended by leaving
out the Penalties of Imprisonment and by making the ffine
five hundred Pounds of Tobacco and that if any Person hear
any news relating to any Difference between the English and
Indians or among the Indians themselves he shall inform the
next Justice of Peace or the Commander in Chief of the
Militia in the County thereof on Oath
The House adjourned for an Hour.

The House met again according to Adjt Called over and
all present as before
Resolved a Message be prepared and sent to the Council
on the Debates of the House this Day relating to the Indians
as followeth
By the House of Delegates
November 11th 1712

Upon reading the Bill and Message last sent from your
Honours relating to the Indians this House debated the same
and came to the following Resolutions
The Question being put whether the Bill pass as amended
by your Honours, it past in the Negative, and Resolved the
second Paragraph be amended, by making the same to oblige
any Person that shall know of any Difference between the
English & Indians or among the Indians themselves to disclose
the same to some Justice of Peace or the Commander in Chief
of the Militia in the County where the Indians are, and to no
other Person on Penalty of forfeiting five hundred Pounds of
Tobacco which we conceive will fully prevent any false News
