The message by Mr Macall and seven others of the House
of Delegates being read & debated The following answer was
sent thereto
By the Council in Assembly
November 14th 1712

U. H. J.

We have considered the Bill you sent up this day by Mr
John Macall and seven others of your House and the message
accompanying the same and since we shall as eminently jus-
tify that we have the true Interest of our Country as nigh at
heart as any of your House if We happen to differ in Judge-
ment about the Time and manner of promoting some things
you think will conduce to it We know not why after we have
Endeavoured to redress the greatest Aggrievances you repre-
sented at the Beginning of the Session you should reflect
upon us not only as partial & unjust in denying you the Lib-
erty Others her Majesty's Subjects in her Plantations enjoy
but asperse us with gratifying the desires of merciless Credi-
tors and mercenary Officers in order to Enslave and impov-
erish the Commonality
Gentlemen, Unless you lay aside these Heats you will inter-
rupt the good Correspondence you ought to cultivate with
this Board and render all our Endeavours for the good of the
Country ineffectual or were you gratifyed in what you desire
