By the Council in Assembly Sepr 28th 1704.

The Message this day about settling the Fees due for
private bills and transcribing the Laws of the last and this
present Sessions has been read and Considered by this
Board and as to the first Proposal for Copys of the Laws for
last Sessions which should then have been Settled we cannot
Think a less reward due therefore than what has been usual
that is to say one thousand pds of Tobo p Copy as may appear
by the County Levys this three or four years last past
That as to the Copys of this present Sessions we Cannot
believe any Person will undertake to do them well for less
than 2500 lb Tobo p Copy They being so many
Therefore desire so much may be allowed to the Keeper of
the Great Seal to Enable him to get them Speedily transcribed
as well to be Sent for England as to the County Courts
Thirdly as to the private Bills it being as absolutely neces-
sary that the Sealed Copy thereof be sent to England as of
other publick Laws we desire you will Explain whether you
meant the Keeper of the great Seal should take one hundd
and twenty pounds of Tobo for the original Law and the same
for each Copy or but one hundred and twenty pounds of
Tobo for all which is conceived unreasonably less than formerly
was allowed to wit four hundred and Eighty pounds of Tobo
for patent of Denization
We further observe to you that upon private Bills you have
not taken any notice of any Fees to the Clerk of this Board
who has as great Burthen of the Business of this Assembly as
any other Clerk Signed p order W Bladen Cl Coun.

Mr Greenfield Col Peirce & Capt Watts bring up a Bill for
better Administration of Justice in probate of Wills &c which
being read the first and second Time is sent to the House by
Col Hammond and Mr Sanders
Col Smallwood Col Peirce and Mr Watts bring from the
House the following message

Journal.

By the House of Delegates Sepr 28th 1704.

We have Considered the last message by Kenelm Chesel-
dyne and William Coursey Esqr of this Day for settling of
Fees on private Laws and transcribing the Body of the Laws
and as to those of this Sessions we have by Examining Com-
mittee of Laws found they will be of greater Length than
what we at first believed, and therefore are Willing to allow
two thousand pounds of Tobacco for Every Copy and that is
