such as you should be there than him and ever since has day
and night Endeavoured to Sett his Master to beate & abuse
him.
He ffurther declares that Charles Seevens Dr Hoopers man
last night told him and several others viz. John Pattin & John
Kersey that before the prison was Broke Humphry the Smith
ask'd his Advice & told him his Mistress had been at him
several times to assist Benjn Celie in getting out of Prison
But Charles said he advised him not to do it for it would be
his Ruin if he did. About 2 months ago he says he saw his
Mistress Rachel Freeborn go twice or thrice to the Smiths
Shop the first time she Carried a pair of hinges & then his
master and he were in the Shopp And Does not know that
ever he saw her go to the Shop five times Ever since She
has been marryed to his Master before
He says he believes in his Conscience she went to pswade
the Smith to Assist Benjamine Celie for since Ben: Celie has
told him Humphrey and he were to meet at the Gallows &
go together.
Ordered that the Sher. of Ann Arundell County do Sumons
Charles Steevens to Appear before this Board to morrow
morning
The Board adjourns till to morrow morning

Benjamin Gather being Brought before this Board by vertue
of his Exncys Warrant is Demanded to give the best Informa-
tion he can as well agt Richard Clarke of Ann Arundell
County as any his Accomplices and being Sworne on the holy
Evangelist Declares that Richard Clarkes Wife some time
in March last Came to his house on a Brown bay horse which
she said was Daniel Meriartees her Brother she Importuned
him to go up with her to Neal Clarks to Carry some things to
her husband He went up with her & lay at Neals house
Neale Came home very late in the Night as he told the
Dept from his mother in Law The next Day the Dept &
Clarks wife went to Richard Clark in the lane in sight of
the house the Dept Ask'd him why he lay out & told him
