demeanour you should now be the first that should feel the
Effects of so doing
Pray take notice that I am an English Protestant Gentle-
man and can never equivocate
After which they were discharged
The members of this Board taking under their Considera-
tion that such use of the Popish Chappel of the City of St
Maries in St Maries County where there is a protestant Church
and the said County Court is kept is both Scandalous and
offensive to the Government do advise and desire his Excy the
Governour to give immediate orders for the Shutting up the
sd Popish Chappel and that no Person presume to make use
thereof under any pretence whatsoever
Whereupon it was ordered by his Excy the Governour that
the present Sheriff of St Maries County lock up the sd Chap-
pel and keep the Key thereof.
Mr Young Mr Leech and Mr Mackal bring from the House
the following message Viz

By the House of Delegates Sepr 11th 1704

Upon the Subject in the last message touching the Design
forming against the Constitution of the Government resolved
that all possible means be used to prevent the same as being
levelled against her Majesties Interest and the good of this
Country and therefore Ordered that a Committee be appointed
to consider the many Evils that would redound both to her
Majesties Interest and the Welfare of this Province and that
his Excy be pleased to join some of the honble Council with
the Committee to consider and make Report and that his Excy
would be pleased to join his Interest with ous to prevent the
same Signed p order W Taylard Cl ho Del.

Ordered that Mr Tench Mr Brooke Mr Smith Mr Cheseldyne
& Mr Coursey joine the Committee of the House so soon as
they are ready

The Bill for regulating ordinaries Read and Sent down to
the House by Mr Smith and Mr Cheseldyne with this recom-
mendation from the Board that in the Seventeenth Line of the
said Bill these words be after County (if her Majesty shall so
think fitt or otherwise as she shall be graciously pleased to
direct) and least the House should apprehend or have any
jealousy that this Board are desirous to have the said fines for
ordinary licences applyed otherwise than by the House pro-
posed they are willing the Law be temporary for some small
time two years or less if the House think fit
