Women & Children dead, Supposed of the Small pox. So
that they had left their Forte, where they have a greate deal
of Come in their Cabbins and all the last Years Corne Standing.
His Exncy asks Col Smallwood if he thinks the Inhabitants
on the Eastern Branch may be secure without keeping out
Rangers. Col Smallwood answers that He Cannot say but
believes the matter might be better Settled by further dis-
coursing them.
The Petition of the Inhabitants on the Eastern Branch oi
Potowmeck read praying to be better Secured from the Insults
of the Indians. The said Petition with other papers relating
to the Indians sent to the House by Col Hamond & Mr Coursey,
Major Taylor and Mr Dollahyde bring from the House the
following Message Viz.

Decr 7th 1704

Upon reading Your Honors Message this Day p Col Holland
& James Sanders Esqr for Assisting in frameing a Bill for
Reliefe of the Inhabitants of Ann-Arundell County in relation
to the Records burnt in the State House. This House have
Considered the Same and in Answer thereto Resolved that
leave is given to the said County to bring in a Bill for their
Reliefe. And Ordered that the Delegates of the said County
prepare a Bill for that Purpose

Major Taylor & Mr Dollahyde also brought in the Agreem'
of the House with Colonel Dorsey for the Rent of his Greate
House for the Assembly and Courts to Sitt in at twenty pounds
Sterl p Ann : Which was assented to by this Boarde & returned
to the house by Mr Sanders.

It being represented to the Boarde that Col William Dent
Who was the Attorny of Sr Thomas Laurence (her Matys Secry
of this Province now in England) is lately dead, and no other
Person in the County impowered thereunto, It is thought
fitting that this Boarde give order to Some person to take care
of Sr Thomas's Interest.

Whereupon the Boarde being informed that the said Sr
Thomas Laurence had assigned and made over all the Fees
proffitts and Perquisitts of his Secry's office to William Bladen
for the Satisfaction and payment of two hundred and forty
pounds sterl. 115293 of tobo The said William Bladen is
thought the properest person to take Care of those ffees And
Whereas it is absolutely necessary that the said Sr Thomas's
