becoming the Royall Beneficence of so good a Queen. And
am as sure will be displeased to find any Sly Insinuations
(that ill grounded Jealousies may foment to the disadvantage
of the publick) should render what her Majesty most graci-
ously designed for your Welfare and happy Establishment
ineffectuall.
Gentⁿ as I am a very plain Dealer I would not have my
sincerity mistaken nor my good Intentions for your Service
interpreted Designing for I as much despise that or flattery
as you can abominate double dealing
Therefore I again recommend the honour and tranquillity
of your Country together with her Majestys Instructions to
your Considerations that the Unanimity of your Councils may
demonstrate your Steady Loyalty to her Majest^iesGovern-
ment and the good wholesome Laws enacted this Sessions
may assure the whole World of your prudent hearty Concur-
rence in this critical juncture
Gentⁿ as I will never determine any thing of moment with-
out laying it before her Majest^ies honble Council here for their
Advise and Decision I think myself obliged in honour and
Conscience to let the Representatives of the Province know
from Time to Time whatever is designed or Carryed on
against the true Interest of their Country. M^r Speaker shall
for your Perusal have the best Information of the particulars
I can at present give and leave it to your wise Determination
if any Part of the Project ought to be made publick or till I
have the true account of the whole Contrivance by an Author
we must all rely on, in the Interim Cannot doubt but you will
think of some proper methods to obviate any clandestine
machination levelled against your Constitution
If your interest and Fortunes become so precarious to be
at the disposal of illnatured neighbourhood without your
approbation or Consent lay it not at my dore since I have
done the Duty of your Friend and Governour timely to
advertize you what is negotiating to your disadvantage For
whilst I have the Honour to be distinguished by her Majes^ties
Commission I would gladly have the province Support its
reputation of being independent from every thing but Eng-
land and as nothing sure can be so dear to mankind as to let
the lasting ornaments of wise Industrious Progenitors be
transmitted to Posterity all prejudicial Innovations ought to
be avoyded with Care and Resolution
And since divine Providence has in a good measure Estab-
lished Christianity here I cannot but take notice that the many
domestick Immoralitys within this province are great Scandals
to the Religion we profess and at this day you and our
European Friends are at such a vast Expence to maintaine.
