Produced & read his Majstys order in council of the 23d of Lib. X. November 1699 Relating to Complaints made of Command ers of Shipps of War pressing & carrying away indented Ser vants and Debtors Whereupon his Excellency says that he has Given Strict orders to Captain Peter Coode Commander of his Majestys Advice Boat Messr attending this Province to have due regard thereto and has likewise Ordered him a Copy thereof Read the Proceedings of his Excellency the Governor & Council of Virginia of the 23d of May 1700 Whereupon Captain Coods orders from the Lords of the Admiralty as well in relation to his attending as well here as Virginia were produced & read And this Board being informed that the said Captain Cood p. 251 has not above three weeks provision on Board can not think it reasonable to send him out of the Capes least the Vessel should be blown of for any Considerable time & the men starved & the Board considering that the said Captain Cood had no Supply or Credit & the exegency of the vessel do ad vise & Order that George Plater & George Muschamp Esqrs his Majestys Receivers of Putuxent & Potomack districts lend & pay unto the said Captain Cood one hundred pounds Sterl ing out of the Revenue of the 3d hhd his Majy having no other fund in this Province wherewith to supply him so that he may be enabled to purchase Provisions at the head of the Bay none being to be had Else where after which that he be directed to cruise in Delaware Bay His Excellency is pleased to advise the Board that whereas he has received an account of a most cruel Barbarous & in human murder committed upon a Man & Woman & six poor Children at the Plantation of Thomas Barston in Virginia upon the Frontiers of Potomack by naked Indians painted & forasmuch as the Emperor of Piscattoway is now come in whether it may not be Requisite to acquaint the Emperor that in case he & his Indians have not been concerned therein they need not be apprehensive of any resentmt from us Which is advised accordingly His Excellency is pleased to ask the Board if they have any thing further to offer for his Majestys Service who say not at present His Excellency acquaints the Board that upon Doctor Brays p. 252 going for England he had conferred the Commissarys Office upon Tho Brooke Esqr one of this Board but that he was always willing that the said Doctor Bray if he returned or any other qualified person sent in by the right Reverend the Lord Bishop of London should enjoy that Office which the Board do well Approve of
