p. 215 The honble Robert Smith Esqr being made acquainted that he was appointed one of his Majestys honble Council of this Province took the oaths appointed by Act of Parliament & the oath of Councellor & Subscribed the Test & Association His Excellency tells the Board that upon his perusall of the Journals of the late Councils & Assemblys he has Observed the great charge that has been occasioned by the Piscattoway & Accocick Indians lately in Articles of Peace with this Pro- vince & now fled into Virginia acquaints them that when his Excellency Collo Nicholson his Majestys Lieut & Govr Genl of Virginia of the Colony was here in Maryland he did then in favour of this Province propose that one of the Gentlemen of this Board & Major William Dent should be sent to him in Virginia upon the meeting of the Assembly there in order to adjust that affair but forasmuch as the said Major Dent was his Majestys Atty General & concerned in many actions as well for his Majesty as others in the Provincial Court here which would happen at the same time his Excellency thought to have adjourned the Provincial Court but afterwards meet ing several of the Council whose houses he had been at in his late progress they were of the Contrary opinion for that they did not think the ordinarys in this Town would be capable to supply & entertain both the Assembly & Provincial Court at one & the same time & that his Excellency considering
