          p. 169   from the Affri-   Know all men by these prsents that we the

                   can Compa         Royall Affrican Company of England have made

                                     Ordeined Authorized Constituted and Appointed

                  and by these prsents do make Ordeine Authorize Constitute

                  and Appoint and in our Stead & place put our Trusty ffriend

                  Richard Smith now residing in the Colony of Maryland in

                  America our True and Lawfull Attorney for us and in our

                  Name to Ask Demand Sue for recover and receive all Suits

                  Sume or Sums of money as shall be become due & payable

                  unto us from the Collector or Collectors of his Matys Customs

                  or any other person or persons whatsoever in any part of the

                  Said Colony of Maryland afd for or by Virtue of an Act of

                  Parliamt Intituled an Act for Settling the Trade to Affrica

                  Giving and by these presents granting to our said Attorney

                  full power and Lawfull Authority for and in our Names to

                  Sue for prosecute Implead Imprison and proceed against all

                  and every or any Collector or Collectors or other person or

                  persons whatsoever within the Said Colony of Maryland from

                  whom any Duty or Dutys, Sume on Sums of money are due

                  and payable or appointed to be paid unto us or to our use

                  by the Act of Parliament aforementioned and upon payment

                  and Satisfaction made to Acquitt release and discharge the

                  Same and one or more Deputy or Deputys under him to

                  Substitute and againe att pleasure to revoke and Generally

                  to Act and do whatsoever shall be requisite and needfull in

                  and touching the premisses as full and Effectually to all In

                  tents and purposes as we the said Company or any of us

                  might on could do if we on any of us were personally present

                  and did the Same ratifying and Confirming all and what

                  soever our Said Attorney shall do or Cause to be done in

                  the premisses, In Witness whereof we the said Royall Affri-

                  can Company of England have caused our Common Seale

                  to be affixed hereunto the 25th Day of June Ano Dni 1700,

                  and in the 12th year of the reign of our Sovereigne Lord

                  King William the 3d over England &c Defender of the ffaith

                  &c. Sealed with the Common Scale of the said

                  Company in the presence of Ino Pery Secry
