Lib. X. I am Sensible of the weight that immediately falls upon me by taking the Government of a Nation so Powerful at Home and of such Influence and Consequence abroad but my Love and Affection to this Country from my Knowledge and Experience of you makes me Resolve chearfully to under go all Difficulties for the Sake and good of my People The Religion Laws and Liberties of the Kingdom are most dear to me and the Preservation of the Constitution in Church and State as it is now happily Established shall be my first and always my Chief Care And as the Alliances entred into by the late King my Father with Foreign Powers have Contributed to the Restoring the Tranquillity and preserving the Ballance of Europe I shall endeavor to Cultivate those Alliances and to Improve and perfect this great work for the Honour Interest and Security of my People
London June 16th Yesterday the parliament was Prorogued by Commission from his present Majesty to the 27th of this Instant Iune His Excellency is likewise pleased to Communicate to this Board a Letter from the Governor of Pennsylvania which is as follows Vizt
Sir Yours of the third Currt gave me Great uneasiness for my p. 186 Omitting to send you the bad news of the Kings Death I can make no other Excuse than that I never Questioned your hearing the News as soon as us besides I heard our Surveyor General say he designed sending you word and likewise to Virginia I hope you'll pardon the Omission proclamation was likewise made at New York ten or twelve days before I pro claimed here for I was willing to wait for Orders from the other side which is usual on the like occasions but upon second thoughts I judged if there was any Error it was one on the right side and therefore I appointed Thursday the 31st of the last month for proclaiming his present Majesty. In the morn ing I Ordered 30 Minute Guns to be fired and began them about 11 in the Forenoon after they had done firing these Guns my Council the Mayor of the City Aldermen and Com mon Council with the principal Gentry of the Town and Country Assembled at my House and went in Procession to the Court House where a plat Form was erected and there made proclamation with many loud Acciamations of long live King George the Second Our Guns again firing a Volley the
