      His Excellency the Governor then took the several Oaths

    Appointed to be taken by Act of Assembly of this province

    as also the Oath following being pursuant to the Oath hereto

    fore taken by Proprietary Governors and Conformable to the

    Oaths taken by the Kings Governors and advised by this Board

    to be taken by his Excellency the present Governor vizt

      I Benedict Leonard Calvert do swear that I will be true and P. 163

    faithful to the Right Honourable Charles Lord Baron of Balti

    more the true and Absolute Lord and Proprietary of this

    Province of Maryland and his heirs and them his and their

    Royal lurisdictions and Seignorys all and every of into and

    over this his Province of Maryland the Islands and Territories

    thereto belonging I will at all times defend and maintain to

    the utmost of my power and will never accept any place Office

    or Employment within the said province any ways Concerning

    or relating to the Government thereof from any person or

    Authority but by from or under a Lawful Authority derived

    or to be derived from his Lordship his heirs or Assigns I will

    faithfully serve his Lordship as his Governor or Commander

    in chief of the said province and in all other Offices Committed

    to my Charge by his said Lordship's Commission or Com

    missions to me and will willingly yield up the said Commis

    sion or Commissions again and all Offices powers and Auth

    orities Granted or to be Granted by them or any of them into

    the hands of his said Lordship and his heirs and Assigns or

    to such person or persons as he or they shall appoint whenso

    ever he or they shall Appoint me so to do and shall signify

    the same unto me and will not presume to put in Execution or

    Attempt to Execute any Office power or Authority Granted

    unto me by any of the said Commissions after that his said
