any season of the year and not being sure that Maryland Lib. X. would come into any such Restriction they thought it not Adviseable to pass a Law which gave their Neighbours so great an Advantage over them and thus a project miscarried which we Judged would have proved useful to the Trade by preventing that unseasonable supplying the Brittish Markets with new Tobacco before the Old Crop can be sold of; which is certainly one Great Cause of keeping the price of that Commodity so low We send Inclosed a Copy of that Bill as it was prepared by the Upper House and if on perusall of it your Assembly shall think fit to Come into like measures we shall be Glad to receive timely advice being in hopes it will meet with no Obstruction in the next Session of Assembly which now stands Prorogued to the Seventeenth of November We Cannot but greatly Commend that publick Spirit and Zeal with which you are pursuing the Common Good of all those Concernd in the Tobacco Manufacture and do assure you on our parts of a hearty. Ordered that the Clerk of this Board draw an Order on Cola Samuel Young payable to John Smith Carpenter for ten Shillings Currency for Supporting the Floor of the Council Room and finding Stuff Which was done accordingly The following Answer was prepared and sent to the Honble The Governor of the Colony of Virginia and the Honble the Council of the said Colony in Answer to their Letter of 25th of June last which was Ordered to be entered vizt Gentlemen Annapolis July 25th 1726 Its with a Great deal of Concern that we are to acquaint you that this Sessions of Assembly is now to come to a Con clusion without affording us any occasion of doing ourselves the Honour of Communicating to you the Agreable News of
