422 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1723.

A Proclamation Whereas this present General Assembly stands prorogued to Tuesday the Second day of July next and whereas there are no Affairs of moment to be laid before them which requires their attendance at that Time I have thought fit with the advice of his Lordships Council of State further to pro rogue and I do hereby further prorogue the same to Monday the 23d day of September next and to the Intent that all per sons Concern'd may have due Notice thereof I strictly require and Charge the several Sheriffs of this province to publish this my proclamation in the usual manner as they will Answer the Contrary at their perill Given at Annapolis this 16th day of May in the 8th year of the Dominion of the right Honble Charles Absolute Lord and Proprietary of the Provinces of Maryland and Avalon &c Annoq Domini 1723 Cha: Calvert The Great Seal of Maryland p.97 Post Meridiem Present as in the Morning The honble Philemon Lloyd Esqr laid before the Board a paper which he received from the Magistrates of Cecil County directed to all Freemen in Cecil County and signed by John Ward of Cecil County and the said paper being read and Considering and appearing to be a Libel tending to promote Tumults and Riots in said County and of dangerous Conse quence to his Lordships Government it is the opinion of this Board that an Order of Council be directed to Colo James Harris to issue his warrant against said John Ward or any othcr Contrivers or publishers of said Libel and examine into Proofs and if he shall find Cause to bind him or them over to make their Appearance at the next Provincial Court to be holden at Annapolis on Tuesday the 10th day of September next there to answer such Things as shall then be alledged against them
