420 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1723.
Lib. x. and in regard that the Faith of Treaties with the Indians and the Honour of the Government ought to be strictly preserv'd and the Authority of the Laws duly asserted they thereon Resolved That an Order of Council be directed to the aforesaid Captain John Rider and Mr William Ennals to forbid them or any other Person whatsoever to molest the said Indians in their Possessions under the Penalty of bcing prusecuted by the Government for so doing And also further Resolved that a Copy of this Order be given to the Indians aforesaid to the Intent that upon any Injury of this kind for the future they may have Immediate Recourse to the Governor and Council for Relief and that the Offendors may be prosecuted with the utmost Severity the Law will Allow And thereupon the following Order was prepared and directed to Captain John Rider and Mr William Ennals and also a Copy thereof given to the said Indians according to the above Resolutions vizt
By the Governor and Council April the 15th 1723
Complaint having been made to this Board by the Nanti coke Indians that you and some others have taken posses sion of their Lands Contrary to the Faith of Treaties with said Indians the Honour of this Government and in Con tempt of the Laws in that Case made and provided you and all other persons whatsoever are hereby strictly forbidden to p. 94 molest in any wise the said Indians in the Premises under the Penalty of being prosecuted with the utmost Severity by the Government for so doing Signd p Order Samuel Skippon Cl Concil
