          Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1698.     41

    

     That we the said Comissioners have by Virtue of an Act of Lib. H. D.

     Parliament made in the 25th year of his late Matys Reigne

     Intituled

    

       An Act for the Incouragmt of the Eastland and Greenland

     Trades and for better Securing the plantation Trade And in

     pursuance of the Authority and Direction to us Given by the

     Rt Honble the Lords Comissioners of his Maty's Treasury

     Deputed and Impowered and do hereby Depute and Im

     power John Dansey Esqr to be Collector of all the Rates

     Dutys and Impositions ariseing and Growing Due to his

     Maty att North Potomack in Maryland by Virtue of the said

     Act whereby he hath power to Enter into any Ship Bottom

     Boat or other Vessell as also into any Shop, House, Ware

     house Hostlery or other place Whatsoever to make Diligent

     Search into any Trunck, Chest, Pack, Case, Trush or any

     other parcell or package whatsoever for any Goods Wares

     or Merchandizes Prohibited to be Imported or Exported or

     whereof the Customs or other Dutys have not been Duty

     paid and the Same to Seize to his Matys Use and also to

     put in Execution all other the Lawfull powers and Author

     itys for the better Managing or Collecting the sd Dutys in p. 250

     all things proceeding as the Law Directs, Hereby praying

     and requireing All and every his Matys Officers and Min

     isters and all others whom it may Concerne to be aiding

     and Assisting to him in all things as becometh Given under

     our hands & Seales att the Custom house London this 29th

     Day of November in the Eleaventh year our Sovereigne

     Lord King William the 3d Annoq Dni 1699

       Whereas this Board are made Sensible that several Vestrys

     have refused to Levy the 40 l p Poll ordered that Notice be

     Given to the said Vestries that if any of the poor of their

     Parishes suffer for want of such assistance they must expect

     to be prosecuted for contempt

       Ordered that Mr Robt Yards Letter & the order about

     French Soldiers be published
