        The following petition was read in Council vizt

     

     

                                   February 17th 1721

        To his Excellency Charles Calvert Esqr his Lordships Lieu-

      tenant Governor of Maryland and his Lordships most Hon

      ourable Council

     

        The humble petition of Richard Pierson of Dorchester

      County

     

        Humbly sheweth to your Excellency and your Honours

     

        That your petitioner was summoned by the Sheriff of

      Dorchester County to attend as a luryman at the Provincial

      Court in April last past now so it is may it please your

      Excellency that your petitioner having no Boat of his own

      and Living in the Lower part of the County made his ap-        p. 33

      plication to one Mathew Travers for a passage with him to

      Annapolis who told your petr he was going there and that

      he shoud be welcome but it hapned so that the said Mathew

      Travers did not go according to his former intent by which

      means your petitioner was wholly disapointed and your peti

      tioner is informed that he was fined one thousand pounds

      of Tobacco for his default in the Provincial Court and your

      petitioner being a poor Impotent man having had one of his

      Hands shot mostly away so that it is become useless there

      fore your petitioner prays that your Excellency and Honours

      would be pleased out of your Great Clemency to Consider

      your poor petitioners Case and remit the said fine

                          And as in duty Bound will pray

     

     

        The said petition is Granted and Order Given that a

      Certificate thereof be made out in favour of said Richard

      Pierson
