        Colo Addison produced the following Letters which were

      read in Council and are as follows vizt

     

      Sir:

        The Occasion of this Trouble is on the death of one of

      the chief men of the Sinicar Nation called Saroney killed by

      two of the Conestogan Traders called John and Edmund

      Cartlidge who immediately fled on this Occasion the Con-

      sequence of this imprudent and base action seems very

      much to threaten this our province with an Indian war to

      prevent which I know no Gentleman so worthy and capa

      ble to apply to as your good self that his Excellency the

      Governor may be acquainted with this unhappy Accident          p. 30

      in order that proper measures may be taken for the secu

      rity of his Lordships good Tennants and as all the Frontiers

      are in the greatest want of Powder and Ball to defend

      themselves we humbly pray your Honour to Consider how

      uncapable we on the back plantations are of defending our

      selves unless we can be furnished out of the publick Maga

      zine in order to which we make our Application to you as

      Father of our County hoping you will not omit doing the

      duty of a Parent on such an Emergent Occasion to prevent

      shedding Innocent Blood I am in sincerity

      Sir

        I am honoured with yours dated this day by Mr Fraser the

      great Sinicar Indian by the best account I can have was killed

      at Monocasey about ten days past by John Cartlidge of Con

      estogoe who was then in Company with his Brother Edmund

      Cartlidge the way he murdered him was by making a violent
