32 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1698.

D. and Severally firmly by these prsents Sealed with our Seales & Dated this Seaventeenth day of Novber 1698 The Condition of this Obligation is such that whereas the Above bound Philip Clark have been bately Comitted of the breach of An Act of Assembly of this province and of Speak ing and Utterring diverse falce Defamatory and Scandalous p. 241 words Agt his Matys Governor of this province and for which he hath been Sentenced by the Justices of the Provll Court before whom the same was tryed to suffer Six months Im prisonment and pay Six Thousand pounds of Tobbaco and whereas Intercession has been made for the sd Philip to his Excy the Governr by his Matys honble Councill a great number of the house of Delegates his Matys honble Justices and the Grand Jury of this Province this prsent provll Court praying his sd Excy the Govr to Extend his Matys Mercy to the sd Philip in remitting his Imprisonmt taking such Bond or Obli gation for the prservation of the peace as should be thought Necessary wch his Excy has been pleased to grant If Therefore the sd Philip do avoyd the sd Crimes for the future well and peaceably behave & abear himselfe towards this his Matys Governmt And all other his Matys Subjects and be of good behaviour in the Province an do appear at the next Provll Court to be held att this Porte & Town of Annapolis on the 9th day of May next Ensueing and there Attend from day to day till he shall be discharged by the sd Court Then this Obli gation to be Voyd & of none effect or elce to remaine in full force & Virtue Sealed & Delivered in open Philip Clarke [Scale] Court freely & Spontanimously M. Miller [Scale] in prsence of C. Gregory Clk Proll Court Wm Dent

Know all men by these prsents That we Philip Clarke of St Mary's County Gent and Elias King of Kent County mercht are holden and firmly bound unto our Sovereigne U' King WiHm the third of England &c in the full Sume of twelve Thousand pounds of good sound merchantable leafe Tobb: and Casque to be paid to the Sd Lord the King his heires or Successors To the which paymt well and truly to be made we bind our Selves our heires Exrs and Admrs Iointly and Sevrally by these prsents sealed with our Scales and Dated this 18th day of November 1698 The Condition of this Obligation is such tht if the above bound Philip Clark do and shall well and truly Satisfy & pay
