272 Papers Relating to Affairs in Maryland, 1701—14.
P. R. O. That the Government of Maryland is a Proprietary Gov ernmt, & will be in yor Petr upon the decease of his Father. That yor Petr having severall times taken all the Oaths to the Governmt as well as the Sacrament in the Church of Eng land, & having allways demeaned himself with the utmost Duty & affection, towards yor Majesty & Government Therefore humbly prays, that yor Majty will be Graciously pleased to continue his Pension, for the support of his chil dren, during his Father's life, & Farther prays, that Captn Hart's Corfiission may be renewed; But if there are any objections that may avail against Captn Hart's being contin ued, yor Petr humbly craves, he may himself be sent Governr of the said province, during his Father's life, with a saving to all the Rights of the Patent, which is his Inheritance. To John Dansey Esqr By Virtue of a Deputation Granted unto me by the Honbles the Commissioners of her Majtys Customs in London bearing Date the second Day of November 1703. Grounded on a Warrant from the Honble the Earl of Godolphin Lord High Treasurer of Great Brittain, in pursuance likewise of Additionall articles of Instructions from their Honnours dated at the Custom house in London the 14th Day of ffebruary 1705. Directing me amongst other things that in Case of any Vacancy by the Death or Want of any Officers of the Cus tomes or otherwise to Depute and Impower some fitt and able Person to serve therein. Finding Great want of a Col lector of her Majtys Customs in the River & District of Pat tuxon in the Province of Maryland, occasioned by the Death of George Mushchamp Esqr Latly Collectr of her Majtys Customs in the said District, I Do therefore hereby Depute and Impower you the sd John Dansey Esqr to be Collector of her Majtys Customs and of all the Rates Dutys & Imposos arising & Growing due to her Majty in the said District of Potuxon by virtue of an act of Parliament maid in the 25th year of the Reigne of King Charles the Second Entitled an Act for the Encouragement of the Eastland & Greenland Trade & for the better securing the plantation Trade. Whereby you have power to Enter into any Shipp Bottom Boat or other Vessell as also into any Shop House Warehouse Hostry or other place what soever for any Goods, Wares Merchandizes Prohibited to be Imported or Exported, or whereof the Cus toms or other Duties have not been Duely payd, and the
