The said Petition is referred to his Majestys Atty Genl to Lib. X. make due Prosecution & to see that Justice be done therein Major William Barton having very well behaved himself & Shewed his Loyalty & Affection to his Majesty he is recom mended to be Commissionated Sheriff of Prince Georges County upon the expiration of Mr Tho Greenfields Sheriff aldry

The honble his Majestys Council sate present as Yesterday Mr Charles Carrol Council at Law of his Lordship the p. 185 Lord Baltimore Lord Proprietary of this his Majestys Province of Maryland being sent for appeared before the Board & his Excellency tells him that he understands that he hath given out that the house of Iohn Perry lately dec'd is escheated asks him how his Lordships Agents here pretend to turn People off of their Lands & sell them as Escheated without an office found & Commands him to produce him an Authentick copy of his Lordships Charter Mr Carol Says he has no such Copy of his Lordships Charter but believes there are several of them in the Province he is Commanded to produce one with all Convenient speed Then read the petition of Philip & Samuel Norwood Com- plaining that the Lord Baltimores Agents had turned his Tenant out of a certain Tract of Land & kept the same against him pretending the same is Escheated altho no Office found Whereupon ordered that Colonel Henry Darnal attend the Board & give his answer to the said Complaint Collo Darnal & Mr Carrol appear at the Board the said Petition being read is as followeth vizt To his Excellency Fra Nicholson Esqr Capt Genl & Govr of Maryland in Council The humble Petition of Philip Norwood & Samuel Nor- wood of Ann Arundel County Planters humbly sheweth That your Petitioners being in Possession of a piece of Land in Ann Arundel County called Batchelors hope & one other Piece of Land adjoyning to the same called Chance- containing in the whole about 240 Acres Which your Peti tioners purchased of one Willm Peck of the same County in Fee Simple but so it is that the Agents of the right honble the Lord Proprietary of this Province pretending that the said Lands are Escheated to his said Lordship have entred into the said Lands & the Tenements thereon standing & keeps the same against your Petitioners altho your Peti tioners had a Tenant in possession of the premises on
