Lib. C. B. Christened a Child in Contempt of the Law. Mr Thorrold answered he understood no body lived in the house but the Woman (whose Child he Christened) who was a Catholique. p. 122 His Exucy tells him that his Behaviour at this tyme espe cially when those of his Faction were Setting up the pretended prince of Wales in her Matys Kingdom of Great Brittain was very audacious, And the first tyme he knows he says Mass in this Town he will sett him by the heels, the second tyme indict him, and the third tyme send him home for England in Jrons, And dismist him bidding him take Care Saying that he will have him narrowly watch't. Then was read the Petition of Benjamin Du Four praying his Exncys Compassion on his Unfortunate Circumstances, some Goods belonging to him designd for his Plantation late imported being seized by the Officers of the Customs upon the Accot of his being an Alien. Whereupon it was observ'd that the Petr brought in his Goods with design to Sell them as himselfe declared to his Exncy before Severall Masters of Shipps Therefore his Exncy & the Board will not at present take any further stepps herein until the Tryall is over. p. 123 Att the Councill held at Annapolis July 8th 1708. His Exncy the Capt Genll &c The honble Col Holland, Mr Cheseldyn Mr Young & Col Contee. His acquaints the Board that he had thought fitt by the Advice of the Councill and Assembly to address their Lordships the Right honble the Lords Comissionrs of Trade and Forraign plantations that a proper Officer should be appointed as Comissary Genll of the publick Stores of Arms and Amunition to ride through the province and inspect the said Arms and Amunition in every County that they be carefully preserv'd and kept well fixt for present Service, Since which he had lately receiv'd their Lordships Directions, signifyed to him by Col: Blakiston our Agent to appoint and Comissionate such an Officer at a Sallary not exceeding One hundred pounds p Annum. Whereupon his Exncy and the Councill were pleased to approve of Colonel Robert Fin ley of Talbott County Whom they advise his Exncy to comis- sionate thereto, & doe not thinke his Sallary for that Service should be less then Eighty pounds p Annum. And Ordered that a Comission be prepared as above.
