D. and singular the Ports and Places in Pensilvania Maryland New York & Conecticot on the Continent of North America p. 198 wee Relying and Considering on your Diligence and fidelity therein Do hereby in Pursuance of the Severall powers to us in that behalf Given by his Royall Highness Prince George of Denmark Lord High Admirall of England Ireland &c and of all her Majestys Plantations &c and Generallissimo of all her Majestys fforces &c Do Constitute Authorize and Depute and Appoint you the said Iames Couts and Hercules Couts Agents for the affaires of the Admiralty for all and singular the Severall Ports and Places of Pensilvania Mary land New Yoark & Conecticot as aforesaid, desireing and Requireing you by all Lawfull ways and means to Endeavour the Recovery and Preservation of all his Royall Highnesses Admiralty Rights and perquisites which have shall or may happen to Come or be brought into all Every or any the Ports and places afd with full power and Authority to you the said James Couts and Hercules Couts to ask Demand & Receive of all and every person and persons all Such Tenths Salvages and other Dues and Rights belonging to his Royall Highness Issueing or araiseing out of the same and Rendering Due accompts thereof to us from time to time pursuant to the Tenour of a Certain obligation bearing even Date with these presents for that purpose Entred into by Thomas Couts Mercht and James Cambell Mercht for and in your behalf and for your better Government in the Premisses we send you herewith some Instructions which you are desired to Comply with and follow, as well as with such further or other Directions Instructions and orders as there shall or May be occasion hereafter to send you, and for your so doing this shall be your sufficient Warrant to which Wee have putt our severall hands and seals this Eleventh Day of Febuary in the year of our Lord 1705/6 J Dod To James Couts and Hercules Couts Esq J Warters at Pensilvania
Instructions You are to Use your utmost Endeavour to prevent Embezellments in all Shipps & goods that shall be brought into any of your ports and places as prize by any privateers belong to any of her Majestys Subjects and see that such Captors after Condemnacon pay their Tenths duly togather with the Incident Charges due to you for what you shall act and Doe therein before such prize shall be Suffered p. 199 to Depart. 2 Where any Merchant Shipp or other Shipp or Vessell whatsoever not Carrying a Comission shall Take any Vessell
